Venus sign compatibility: which signs match
Venus signs get along best when their elements fit: fire with air, earth with water. A hard match is not a bad match. It means you start from different habits in love.
What is Venus sign compatibility?
Venus sign compatibility compares the Venus signs of two people. In astrology, Venus shows how a person gives and wants affection. So the match between two Venus signs is read as how well your styles of loving fit.
It is different from sun sign compatibility, which compares who you are at your core. Many astrologers put more weight on Venus when the question is about attraction and romance. Both are traditions. Neither has been shown to predict whether a relationship works. Use them as a way to start a conversation about what each of you needs.
How to compare two Venus signs
- Find both signs. Enter each birth date in the Venus sign calculator. Use your own and your partner's, or a friend's.
- Look at the elements. The table below shows how each pair of elements tends to fit.
- Read both pages. Each Venus sign page lists what that sign needs and what it finds hard. Compare them side by side.
How the elements fit together
Each sign belongs to one of four elements. Matching or complementary elements usually feel natural. Clashing ones take more explaining.
| Elements | How they tend to fit |
|---|---|
| Fire and fire | Shared energy and enthusiasm. The risk is competing, or burning out together. |
| Fire and air | Air feeds fire. Lively, social and full of plans. |
| Fire and earth | Warmth meets steadiness. You differ on pace: one wants to go now, the other wants to plan. |
| Fire and water | Strong feeling on both sides. It can be passionate or it can leave one of you hurt or put out. |
| Earth and earth | Stable, loyal and practical. The risk is a routine that stops growing. |
| Earth and water | Nurturing. Earth gives water a shape, and water keeps earth soft. |
| Earth and air | Practical meets curious. You can talk past each other unless you translate. |
| Air and air | Lots of talk and shared ideas. The risk is staying in your heads and avoiding feeling. |
| Air and water | Mind meets heart. It works when each learns the other's language. |
| Water and water | Deep and sensitive. Moods can feed each other, for better or worse. |

What if two Venus signs clash?
Nothing is ruled out. A clash tells you where the friction will probably show up, so you can talk about it early. A Venus in Cancer who needs reassurance and a Venus in Aquarius who needs space can do well if each says so plainly and neither takes the other's habit as a verdict.
A good rule is to name your own habit first. "When I am hurt, I go quiet" is easier to hear than "you never talk to me."
What the Venus sign does not tell you
- The rest of the chart. Astrologers also look at the Moon, Mars and other placements. A Venus sign is one piece.
- Who the person is. A sign describes a tendency. It does not know your history, your values or your choices.
- The future. There is no evidence that any pairing of signs predicts how long a relationship lasts or how happy it is.
If you want to start somewhere, find your Venus sign, then read your own page. Knowing what you tend to need is the useful part.
Retrograde and compatibility
If either of you was born while Venus was retrograde, the calculator says so. Astrologers read that as a more inward, reflective style of loving. See the Venus retrograde guide for the dates and what the tradition says.
